Fantastic news for our school and community is that we have now appointed a new Assistant Principal. Mr Dave Warren began on the first day of term four and comes from Bethel Primary School. David brings with him a wealth of educational and leadership knowledge and we are delighted to have him on board. Dave visited us in the last week of term to meet students and staff (and some parents too) and even enjoyed participating in the staff verses student's basketball game at lunchtime.
Just prior to the end of term, we received out grade three and five NAPLAN data.  We were very excited with the growth shown by our grade five students since they sat the NAPLAN assessments two years ago. Another thing to celebrate was the improvement in our Writing data. This has been a focus area for our school over the past twelve months, and we are beginning to see the results of lots of commitment by our staff, and great effort and focus by our students - well done.
With footy in the air, we all enjoyed supporting the Footy Colours day on the 8th
September. Our Parents and Friends Association proved a delicious sausage sizzle lunch and we thank them for once again supporting our students. Most teams were well represented ... and I bet Richmond supporters are still wearing their jumper.
Congratulations to our Student Representative council, who organised two amazing events during term three. A Friday night disco was super popular, with students dancing, munching into popcorn and chocolate crackles and sipping on drinks. Even after a whole day excursion into the city, our younger students had a fantastic time. We finished the term with a rainbow dress up day. Bright colours were visible everywhere - even on staff - and the event was a great fun way to end the term. Some of the funds raised have been targeted to the Royal Children's Hospital, the charity chosen by the students, with the remainder to be spent on a school based project that they will decide upon next term.
Our school masterplan has been signed off and the next step is for the project team to now visit a few schools to looks at design options. The schematic drawings are due to be completed by the architects by the end of this year, ready to then be approved and sent out to tender. The two buildings (in stage one) will be a staff centre and a school library - both desperately needed as we continue to grow and outgrown our current facilities. They will be located on the new clock just to the east of the laneway. A new portable building will arrive in term four, ready for additional students next year.
Major maintenance works are happing at the school over the holiday period. Roofing, guttering and downpipes are all being addressed. The main student toilet block is being gutted and totally refurbished. It's very exciting.
It’s great to see the sun out - enjoy the warmth.
