 2017

September

The term is just flying and the weeks seems to just keep getting busier. Over the past term we have been reviewing and redeveloping our new school vision. We decided to do this after we completed our school review in 2016. It was time to look at the current and future needs of our students and design a vision that best described our aspirations for our students. A vision working party, consisting of staff and parent representatives, was formed and they drafted five possible scenarios after brainstorming all of the important things our school should be working towards providing. These were then developed into five suggested vision statements. Staff and parents voted on the suggestions - with one vote separating the top two. It was then decided that the Student Representative Council would make the final decision. I met with the grades 3-6 SRC members and they decided to combine the top two responses. So .... Our new school vision is: "Wandong Primary School - making a difference by developing confident, independent and resilient learners who strive for personal excellence.”

We then looked at our mission statements – how are we going to achieve this vision?

We will achieve this vision by:

  • Inspiring others to learn
  • Providing ongoing feedback
  • Building self esteem
  • Modelling integrity

Our school values have remained the same – Responsibility, Respect, Honesty, Care, Friendship and Doing your Best. A very exciting time for our school.

Whole school Athletics Carnival: We recently held our very first whole school athletics carnival at Meadow Glen International Athletics Complex in Epping. The weather was cool but the students were super pumped. High jump, long jump, discus, shotput, sprints and some novelty events filled the day. Some of our students have recently participated in the District Athletics carnival as a result of their performances at our whole school event. I’m sure this event will become regular on our school calendar.

School Masterplan Update: All of the external fencing has now been completed around the new school block and we are awaiting the last bit of fencing between us and our northern neighbours in Wandong Avenue to be completed. Our school masterplan is in the final stages of being drafted. Thank you to our families that gave us feedback. Once done this will be in display in the school office. We will soon complete a little clean-up of sticks and branches on the block and then let the students go for an explore. They can’t wait to have a look around.

Until next time – stay warm, Rhonda Cole
